Help the burrow hold its temperature
Your desert tortoise should be snoozing in ideal brumation temperatures now, 35-50 degrees F. However, when the weather forecast is for temperatures at freezing or below, people start to worry. You might want to protect the air in the burrow from getting too cold during the cold spell.
I have wadded up some newspaper, taped it with masking tape to hold its shape, and stuffed it into the burrow opening. You can see that the opening is not sealed but allows some air circulation. One person suggested using a nylon string bag to hold the paper and for easy removal. I’ll take the newspaper bundle out when the weather warms up a bit. And, Tad could easily push out the newspaper if he wanted to come out.
